Temporary Setting
Hanna Peräkylä, Visual Artist of the City of Kouvola
1 February – 28 April 2024 Poikilo Art Museum

Temporary Setting by Hanna Peräkylä, winner of the visual artist award of the city of Kouvola for 2023–2025, addresses the human relationship with the environment, consumption and memory. In her latest works, she explores the definition of landscape, its incompleteness, and the ways it is re-shaped and short-sightedly patched up.

The exhibition consists mainly of varied textile works, paintings and installations, which contain both reused ready-made objects and randomly shaped found objects alluding to the construction industry. The works are characterized by a strong feel of the material, a sense of sculpture, and an exploratory approach to the diversity of painting. The exhibited pieces were made between 2013 and 2023.

Hanna Peräkylä completed her Master of Arts (Textile Art) degree at the Aalto University, School of Arts, Design and Architecture, in 2013. She has been active in holding solo and group exhibitions since 2007. Peräkylä lives in Voikkaa and works at her studio at the Taideruukki art community in Kuusankoski. To join her exhibition, Peräkylä has invited performance artist Leena Kela to the Kino-Poikilo gallery.

The exhibition has received a government grant from the Finnish Heritage Agency. It is supported by the Centenary Foundation of Kymi Corporation.
